Planned for a trip to Mandalapatti (Madikeri)...Nothing new the plan got changed a day before the journey...decided for Mandya, Gaganachukki, Bharachukki, Talakadu, Somanathpura.
Date 28/12/2013 plan was to leave early morning with 5 members myself, madan, chetan, anil & swamy.
Rakesh was left out this time he had some personal commitments, because of swamy journey was rescheduled to 5:00 PM. Even he was not reachable @ 5:30PM started with the 4 of us in madan's i10.
We had planned to stay @ Hotel Jyothi International, Mandya on Madan's recommendation... reached the hotel @ 8:00PM booked a room for 4 & straight away went for the Birthday Bash in dhaba next to the hotel started with cake cutting...had a nice time, the security guard was requesting us to leave to the hotel again and again finally we decided to leave to the hotel @ 2:00AM.
Got Up @ 8:00 AM, fresh ed up filled our stomachs started our journey towards Gaganachukki. asked for the route to Gaganachukki, started towards malavahalli via KM Doddi reached Gaganachukki @ 11:30AM.
The journey was filled with greenery on both sides of the road with paddy, sugarcane, coconut, banana fields.
Gaganachukki though the waterfalls was not at its best (as I have seen in few other photos), still it looked good. There was not much of crowd when we went, but before we could return, lot of school children arrived by then. We spent close to an hour.It was disappointing as the water was less..
We ate Cucumber & got refreshed with Tender coconut water..left the place towards Bharachukki from here on the steering wheel was in my hand.on via we visited the Madhyaranga Temple(Ranganatha Swamy Temple) a few kilometers from the falls....The road until Belakavadi was good and thereafter it started to deteriorate. For few meters, there were no roads. 1 or 2 KM before the waterfalls, couple of guys stopped and asked Rs.50 as the entrance fee for the car. They definitely did not look like a government posted personnel and tickets looked fake. We argued for some time & finally paid the money...Have to get down 260steps to reach falls,we climbed down the falls looked better than Gaganachukki..we had a chance to play in water which not the case in Gaganachukki..we climbed up the water falls the rocks were slippery it was a chilling experience...
Got down from the falls, took the coracle ride to spot where the water falls. This person charged Rs.50 per person for the ride. Chetan was afraid of this part as even he doesn't know swimming, the ride was without any safety eqipments. Started the ride till the falls took a few snaps which was awesome spot..
Climbing back the steps was exhausting..Gaganachukki Falls can give a miss:)
Madan was already exhausted & started saying let us drive back home no one was interested in returning with half a day still left...journey picked up towards Talakadu..with a lot of lively jokes among us about our school days..payed the entrance fee @ Talakadu had Lunch(not good) :( there was no other option..marched towards the temple & came round a lot of lingas around Thalakadu in bare foot almost all the temples were covered with sand...the place was good ..it was already evening..drove towards Somanathpura...
As soon as we reached there the security in charge rushed us as it was the closing time, purchased the tickets & entered the temple there was nothing, it was like Halebidu only old sculptures. It was quite disappointing for us..
everyone was exhausted thought about driving back home. But Chetan insisted to visit Sri Rangapatna Temple..Changed our minds & the car headed towards Sri Rangapatna Temple(Adhi Ranga).
After reaching the temple offered our prayers finally decided to head home..
From here on Madan was in the driving seat, I informed him to stop in Channapatna Toys shop as i had to purchase a few gifts for my niece..got down near a shop in Maddhur finished the shopping asked shop owner to Shivallis Hotel..We pit stopped in shivallis had our dinner(Masala Dosa)..reached home @ 12:30 mid night..
It was a wonderful journey....
